Newel K. Whitney Award

This last week Jordan learned that he would receive the Newel K. Whitney Award. Initially, we were not sure what this award was about and we thought that it may be an April Fools joke because the banquet just happened to be on April 1st. This is the explanation of the award given by the business department:

"This award has been named after Newel K Whitney, an entrepreneur who used his gifts and talent to build up the kingdom of God and also individuals around him. "From [his] humble beginning he built a thriving business and used his resources to strengthen and build The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kirtland." Whitney was innovative, provident and frugal. Additionally, Whitney was able to improve his business, yet remain loyal to the church despite hard times. "He was a successful businessman, a presiding bishop of the Church, a prominent civic official, and a notable member of his community." The Newel K Whitney award is given to students who have displayed similar traits that Newel K Whitney possessed. Specifically, students are honored for an extraordinary effort throughout the business program. Students are selected by a least two of the Business Management faculty who feel they would represent the Church, University, and Department as an exemplary employable quality graduate. "

We are so excited that Jordan was honored in this way. Hopefully a business in Colorado will also find that he is an employable graduate. We are keeping our fingers crossed!
